I love graveyards. There’s something particularly special about sitting in that little room, talking to yourself, but knowing that you could be talking to someone else, or a lot of someone elses!

I took on this Graveyard shift in the midst of what will probably be my busiest fortnight for 2014. Why? I still don’t really know, but I wrote a blog post to try and explain it. That aside, my busy and weary brain made it through the night just fine! The intense fear of ruining any Triple R broadcast pumps enough adrenalin through my body to keep me awake long after I hope off the microphone. For this particular broadcast, I dedicated myself to playing a variation of songs and to talking a little more, pushing myself beyond the usual quick back and forward announce.

You can check out the Playlist here and listen to the whole show (or just the good bits, up to you!) On Demand here.

Up All Night

The Graveyard Shift

Presented by Tess Lawley

22/3/13, 2 til 6 am on 3RRR FM

When I was in year 9, someone suggested I be a radio announcer, with the logic behind such a life decision being ‘you love music and you’re good at talking’.

Since then I’ve finished high school, started one university course, changed to another, considered careers in advertising, PR, journalism, academia and floristry, and arrived at the understanding that it is my dream to be a radio announcer. One thing that has remained a part of me throughout all of this is that I love music and I’m good at talking. Live music radio is ridiculously fun! The adrenaline is pumps through every inch of your body while you play your favourite songs (SO MUCH FUN) and then talk about them (SERIOUSLY THE FUNNEST) to someone who’s actually listening! And that is why I love presenting the Graveyard Shift on 3RRR and try to do so every couple of months.

So, if you need 4 hours of background noise and you feel like judging my music taste and/or listening to me talk occasionally, you can hear my Graveyard on 3RRR’s Radio On Demand by clicking here.
